Day Program/Enrichment Counselor
True North enables people with disabilities to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest. The Day Program/Enrichment Counselor is responsible for developing and facilitating recreational groups and programs that meet the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of the participants in the True North Day Program.
Responsibilities
- Supervise clients' daily activities and be responsible for their safety and well-being.
- Teach self-sufficiency abilities and skills.
- Assist with the evaluation of clients
- Assist with Day Program maintenance, i.e., everyday fix-it needs, problem solving, and contacting the Program Director for professional maintenance needs.
- Help maintain necessary supplies, materials, and equipment for the Day Program within budgetary guidelines.
- Maintain first aid supplies on-site and in Day Program vehicles.
- Monitor community sites for environmental and programming quality.
- Ensure client Day Programs are implemented and documented.
- Ensure all events of an emergency nature or concern are documented on an Incident Report and submitted to the executive director by the next working day.
- Document client's daily attendance.
- Ensure the client's daily progress notes are documented.
- Ensure client Day Program files are updated and complete
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with adults with disabilities/functional impairments.
- Can plan and organize time and follow established procedures independently.
- Have good English verbal and written skills.
- Can relate professionally with all staff.
- Be creative, flexible, reliable, punctual, and assertive.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral); strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and Google Suite of Apps.
- Will have or obtain a Colorado driver's license as soon as possible after hiring.
- CPR/first aid certification is a plus. Will provide training if necessary.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
- Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, walk, and respond to aggressive behavior with prescribed techniques
Hours
This position is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekends may be required. The Day Program/Enrichment Counselor reports to the Program Director.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The salary range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00 per hour DOE. There is a 90-day probationary period for all new hires.
- Five days are available in the first 90 days. An additional five days are available after the probationary period for the first year.
- 48 hours of sick time annually
